The School of Performing Arts of Queens Herald Community Corporation believes that all art is a gift from God and therefore strives to encourage participants to explore and to enhance their artistic talents to glorify God. It is also a platform for the participants to respond to God’s goodness through music and drama while self esteem and personal growth are being nurtured. We currently offer vocal, instruments & groups classes.
Many people are gifted with natural singing ability, but do not know how to make use of their voices to sing. Singing brings out the beauty of music, which soothes the listening ears and calms the wearied souls. It also accentuates the peace and serenity of music that reflect the nature of our Creator. Whether you want to become a professional singer, a casual performer, or sing for fun, it is important to learn how to make use of your best asset and to increase its potential. ~ Vocal Private Lesson (For All Ages) ~ Florence Ng

This class emphasizes on basic vocal development through proper breathing as well as solfège learning, sight-reading and ear training. It helps learners to discover the potential of their vocal quality and improve theirvoice training and exercises will be taught to enhance the learner’s vocal skills.

This class is designed for a group of 3 to 4 learners, and is geared towards for worship team or band vocalist. Emphases will be placed on voice training, vocal and musical sense development, and singing and harmonizing as a group. This training will develop learner’s vocal skill, thus build up his/her confidence in singing performances.

Children choir helps children learn the importance of education value which involves listening carefully, following direction and exhibiting self-control. Through this experience, they learn to respect oneself and others and to depend on teamwork. When children join choir, they show considerable improvement in self-confidence, self-discipline, focus, memory, problem solving skills, and leadership qualities.

Sat AM/PM, 60 mins lesson – $45 per lesson
The 30-minute class is recommended for new learners or young children while 60-minute class is intended for teenagers or adults. Each student will be taught to develop a good posture, produce good tone and with good intonation. Helping students to discover and develop the musical talents that God gives to them is one of Katy’s goals.
~ Violin Group Lesson (For Ages 4 & above) ~ Katy Ho

This class is designed for a group of 3 to 4 young beginners. Basic musical concepts and violin playing skills will be taught. The aim of this course is to nurture one’s sensitivity towards music and enrich one’s musical environment.
~ Piano Private Lesson (For All Ages) ~ Ching Lam

Wed/Sat PM (Afternoon), 45 mins lesson – $30 per lesson
This class offers basic musical concepts, instructions on piano skills and techniques. Sight-reading skills are developed through careful, incremental introduction of note reading with constant reviews to motivate the learner and to confirm learner’s continued developing sight-playing skills. The aim of this course is to nurture and enrich one’s musical environment.
- If you have taken instrumental classes before, instructor will have to assess your skill level before a placement can be made.
- For all violin classes, students are required to bring their own instrument to class.
~ Guitar FUN (For Ages 12 & above) ~
Sat AM/PM, 1 Hr lesson – 12 Lessons, $180
Want to sing your favorite song accompanied by guitar? In this class, students will learn how to hold down a note to get a clear tone on the guitar and pluck melody to strengthen the learners’ hands. They will also learn to read guitar chords, guitar tab, and chords charts.
~ Drum FUN (For Ages 12 & above) ~
Sat AM/PM, 1 Hr lesson – 12 Lessons, $180
Learn to play drums entirely by ears. This class covers some basic concepts: drum set posture, drumstick grip, basic pedal technique, basic drum beats, drum beat variations, first drum fills, using a metronome, drum theory and notation, hand technique, and, of course, accompanying as the drummer in a band.
